104.7 The Fish Ends 25 Year Run - Transitions to Air1 Worship Music

By Don Stone

The final day of Atlanta’s beloved Christian radio station, 104.7 The Fish,  marked the end of an era for its devoted listeners and staff. After nearly 25 years of broadcasting contemporary Christian music and faith-based programming, the station signed off on January 31, following its sale to the Educational Media Foundation (EMF) by Salem Media Group to address financial debt.

The station’s morning show hosts, Kevin Avery and Taylor Scott, who’s program was on the air during the entire existence of the station, expressed their gratitude and sadness in a heartfelt farewell. Reflecting on their 24-year journey, they said, “We feel incredibly privileged to have shared ‘Good, Clean, Fun’ and lived life alongside you for 24 years. So many times at radio events, we would meet those of you who grew up listening, and now you have children of your own. That’s so rare in radio, and we are so grateful!” They added, “Every day you inspired us with the stories of your lives, to love God and love people better.”

Listeners also shared emotional tributes during the final broadcast. One caller thanked the station for helping their family through a difficult time, while another reminisced about growing up with The Fish as a constant companion. The station played a customized version of MercyMe’s “I Can Only Imagine,” featuring audio clips from listeners and staff expressing their farewells. The song ended with MercyMe’s Bart Millard saying, “Well done, you good and faithful servant.”

A week before the final broadcast, hundreds of fans gathered at Mount Paran Church for a farewell event to celebrate the station’s legacy. The event featured giveaways of remaining station memorabilia and heartfelt speeches from staff members.

EMF has taken over the 104.7 FM frequency and continues broadcasting Christian music under its Air1 network. While the format changed to worship music, EMF Interim CEO Tom Stultz assured listeners that their mission remains to “reach more people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

The station’s last moments on air were deeply emotional. Host Penny closed out the final segment with tears in her voice before playing one last song. As the music faded, 104.7 officially transitioned into an Air1 station with a message thanking The Fish’s staff and listeners for their unwavering support over the years.
