Blake Shelton
"Savior's Shadow"

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have both recently been blessed with musical success, and they’re both crediting a higher power for their high-charting music. They might come from completely different worlds and use drastically different music genres to bare their souls to their fans, but Gwen and Blake share the same faith.

Blake Shelton has a reputation for being a bit of a goofball. The fun-loving star of NBC's The Voice loves to crack jokes at the expense of his fellow coaches, and he enjoys entertaining his fans by getting silly on social media. However, Blake recently took a break from poking fun at Adam Levine’s pink hair to get serious about a new song that he’s deeply passionate about, a gospel tune titled “Savior’s Shadow.”
It’s about turning to Jesus for comfort and strength during a trying time.
“Though the devil try to break me / My sweet Jesus won’t forsake me / When I’m in my Savior’s shadow / Where I’m supposed to be,” Blake Shelton sings.

As Billboard points out, Blake Shelton’s song of praise is “outside of his usual marketing channels.” However, it’s turning out to be a big hit for the mainstream country star.
“Savior’s Shadow” hit Christian radio this week, and Pop Vortex reports that it’s currently No. 4 on iTunes Top 100 Gospel & Christian Songs chart. And, it just entered the Billboard Contemporary Christian charts at #17.

Blake was blown away by the response the song about redemption received, as evidenced by a few of his most recent tweets.
"In all the years I've been doing this I've never experienced this kind of reaction from a song. So proud." said one tweet. " Woke up this morning to more and more incredible reaction to "Saviors Shadow"... I'm so grateful," soon followed.

Blake tweeted that most of the song’s lyrics came to him last summer in a dream, and he wrote down all of the words that he could remember upon waking up. According to Taste of Country, songwriters Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall helped Blake complete the gospel song, and it will be one of the tunes included on his May 20 album, If I’m Honest.

Gwen Stefani let Blake Shelton know that she supports the leap of faith he took when he decided to release a song about his faith.
"Thank u dear God for this new amazing song we just wrote!" she tweeted.

Just like Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani isn’t shy about sharing her faith with her fans, and she has also said that a higher power plays a part in her songwriting process. During an interview with TIME, Gwen revealed that she dealt with the aftermath of her divorce from her husband of 13 years, Gavin Rossdale, (lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Bush) by getting in touch with her spiritual side.
Gwen (who rose to fame as lead singer of the group, No Doubt) started writing brutally honest songs about what she was thinking and feeling, and her record label initially feared that she was getting too personal. However, Gwen Stefani had faith in what she was creating, and she resisted her label’s attempt to change the direction of her new album.

“They really knocked the wind out of me,” Gwen said.
“I was feeling like, ‘Wow, you don’t understand, I’m channeling God, this is saving my life.'”

  "Savior's Shadow"

Lyrics

I'm standing in my Savior's shadow
He is watching over me
I feel the rain, I hear the thunder
As he cries for me

I'm standing in my Savior's shadow
Grace will lead to where I'm free
I take his hand, we walk together
And his light shines on me

Though the devil try to break me
My sweet Jesus won't forsake me
When I'm in my Savior's shadow
Where I'm supposed to be

I'm standing in my Savior's shadow
Following his footsteps there
Every mountain, every ocean
He hears my every prayer

Though the devil try to break me
My sweet Jesus won't forsake me
When I'm in my Savior's shadow
Where I'm supposed to be

Though the devil try to break me
My sweet Jesus won't forsake me
When I'm in my Savior's shadow
Where I'm supposed to be
When I'm in my Savior's shadow
I'm who I'm supposed to be

Gwen Stefani taking her kids to church

Gwen finally got her label to see the light by recording “Used to Love You,” the first single from her new album, and her belief that God was helping her create the record paid off big-time. Stefani insisted on channeling her divine inspiration into all the songs on This Is What the Truth Feels Like, and it became her first solo album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album includes more than a few songs about her budding relationship with Shelton, including "Make Me Like You" and "Misery."

During an interview with the New York Times, Stefani revealed that she feels like everything good and bad that has happened to her over the last year-and-a-half has been part of God’s plan for her, and this presumably includes Blake Shelton going through his divorce from Miranda Lambert at the same time she was recovering from her split from Rossdale.
Some might question Gwen’s suggestion that Shefani is the result of divine intervention, but Gwen won’t shy away from talking about her faith.
“I know that it’s weird to talk about spirituality publicly, because it’s such a personal thing, and I know that some people, it offends them,” Gwen said. “But I can say my own journey, and what I believe and what I feel and what I’ve seen, the miracles I’ve seen—it’s quite real for me.”

BLAKE SHELTON
"Savior's Shadow"
(from If I'm Honest,
due to be released
May 20, 2016
)

CBD Price: $1.29

Fans have not seen this side of Blake Shelton. In “Savior’s Shadow,” the singer proclaims his unconditional faith in God. It’s a simple gospel song
set to strings.
The arrangement is more sparse than any song Shelton has ever released to radio. The drummer stays home on this track from If I’m Honest. “Savior’s Shadow” is not a country single — his label is introducing it to fans and Christian radio stations first. One struggles to think of a song like this ballad that has found mainstream success over the last decade, but that’s not why Shelton wanted to write
or record it.
Here the vocalist shows all of his vulnerabilities, revealing a man who is still very rooted in his faith and raising.
